About You
I thought it was a really good experience and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a hands-on experience where I was assigned work that I actually felt was important and directly helping someone on the team.
I felt really connected to the rest of the team. Everyone was extremely encouraging and gave their time to help you or get you as involved as possible so that you always had something interesting to do. They were also very helpful in their feedback on the work that you've done, so that you can always improve as well.
There were many avenues of support - from my training buddy to everyone else on the team to the graduate recruitment team. There were bounds of people who would offer themselves to help you and there were people aplenty to ask if you had any questions.
I think this vacation placement was a fantastic way to really see the inside of a law firm and how it operates, and I think it was an invaluable experience to cooperate with the team, work on matters with the department and so on that academics simply can't provide.
The Company
Everything was given to us in a timetable fashion and was hardly deviated. Very easy-to-follow.
The atmosphere was simply exciting and I looked forward to it every day!
I think being chosen for a vacation placement is already a big indicator of investment given the amount of competition out there. In addition, the firm really gives up a lot of time and effort (such as having a partner lunch) to make sure we can develop as much as possible in the short two weeks.
I know that a two-week vacation placement is not going to be fully indicative of what the full-time role would be like, but I think within those constraints it seemed very representative. I did feel like I was part of the firm and could easily imagine what it *would* be like to have a full-time role.
Very much so! Everyone was extremely friendly, hardworking and personable. It wasn't just my training buddy - it was everyone on the team, random people from other departments who you might run into - there was just a consistent level of helpfulness and friendliness that I definitely gleaned from this experience.
I always wanted to be a lawyer but this scheme just solidified it.
Everything Else
£500 for the two weeks.
Definitely. There were networking opportunities every day and throughout the day! I've met everyone on my team, people from other departments, partners, and everyone in between.
Really fun. The comedy club and bowling were especially highlights.
They did many presentations that gave information on what types of activities there are, as well as general conversation from other trainees and solicitors. It seems like there are plenty of things to get involved in!
Definitely, without a doubt. It was a fantastic experience.
