    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working at EY was generally an enjoyable experience, and I benefited a great deal working with some very talented teams and exposure to different clients from the first week.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Building a rapport with colleagues was rarely difficult because of the nature of the work, which requires effective teamwork.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • EY has a good support network, where each individual is assigned a 'buddy', who is there to offer any support particularly during the first couple of months when you are adjusting to a new working environment.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload generally varied on the client and the size of the team relative to the amount of required. A typical week would probably consist of 9 till 6, with additional hours between Jan-Mar.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Plenty of responsibility is given from the first week, including communicating with the client to request data or additional information, as well as communicating any significant issues to the audit manager.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The time management skills will definitely help in managing the workload of the final year, and the excel skills will become useful for certain task as well

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere at the client varies from each individual client as well as the stage of the audit. When the audit is going well and on time, the team is generally in good spirits.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was organised well. Any necessary issues were communicated clearly in advance, and the admin for exams and study leave was taken care of by the support team

  • A lot of resources are allocated towards education, including the professional exams which are paid for by the firm, and the internal training sessions.

  • I was offered a permanent position shortly after my placement year ended.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The department held socials on a bi-monthly basis, and team socials were held shortly after the completion of the audit.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The rent in London was relatively expensive.

  • London has a range of bars and restaurants to visit.

  • The firm organised a couple of CSR days during the first week, and allowed further time off for charity work if we wished to do so.
