The Role
I really enjoyed my time there.
Staff of all levels went out of their way to make you feel valued.
Support came in all directions -from a graduate mentor to senior diplomats.
This varied widely - some days there was very little to do, others it was a challenge to prioritise as you had so many tasks with impending deadlines!
Very little - by the nature of the internship you can be working on sensitive/important projects (NATO Summit in my case) and therefore the amount of responsibility is limited.
Time management and setting priorities was a great skill to take away from the internship.
The Company
Very positive, very busy!
Organisation was outstanding - there were so many events put on to give us a broader picture of the Foreign Office and life as a diplomat, e.g. crisis management simulation at the MOD, talks with senior politicians, watching Philip Hammond's exit speech, meetings at No. 10, parties at the US embassy...
There was a lot of training to help get onto the graduate scheme.
Company Parties/Events
I left wanting to work for the FCO.
The Culture
Great intern community.
Expensive! You are in Westminster after all! A few cheapish pubs around though.
Great - covent garden, leicester square etc.
None.
