The Role
I really enjoyed the placement, particularly the last 9 months where I acquired a lot more responsibility on the department due to the business wide re-structure.
There is a mixture of feelings towards this. At times you can feel really valued by those around you but at other times this is lacking which can have a very negative impact on the team and individual.
On the job training through the HR and ASDA Academy teams, by my buyer and fellow assistant buyer and also setting up meetings with different departments to gain a broader understanding of how the business works as a whole.
Really busy! You work every minute of the day from 9 - 5.30 and have to prioritise tasks in order to keep on top of the workload efficiently.
Given much more responsibility than expected for example assisting with range build and negotiating costings under supervision
My confidence and ability to voice my opinions and become heard has definitely strengthened and is something that I have carried with me everyday since finishing my placement. I am much more organised and able to prioritise tasks efficiently.
The Company
Good atmosphere in the office. Great sense of community within the department however, the buying side could often seem 'clicky' and hard to fit in with. After a departmental re-structure this atmosphere improved due to changes made within the team.
Well set up however, support could be more continual throughout the placement year.
They invest heavily in each individual
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Due to the re-structure no open offers were given to assistant buyers post-graduation however, I will be looking to apply for a role towards the end of my degree
The Culture
There was an amazing relationship between fellow interns and this made our year an incredible experience.
Very reasonable and commutable living in Rugby
The nightlife in Rugby and Leicester was good however, links to Birmingham and Coventry were also easy to reach
This could be extended slightly more i.e. yoga classes, gym sessions, language courses
