The Role
Because I was a placement student I was allowed to go outside my department and work in other areas of the business which kept every day fresh and exciting.
As the workload increased I became very valued!
I was lucky to have a great manager who always took time out to support me.
There was always something to do. However some aspects of the job was quite repetitive.
At the start I was given pretty mundane tasks and this continued during my whole placement. I was given one large project to complete of which I had total responsibility for implementation and direction. The outcome of which will be used by over fifty people.
Experience is the best teacher and the varied work on offer meant I had a lot of new experiences
The Company
The office was a bit dull however this is being changed. They are trialling a new office layout that looks and feels similar to the Google offices.
HR had a clear objectives matrix that displayed areas they expect placement students to develop. This is a really useful tool.
We were sent on one training course to help us adapt from University to a real work environment. My department also sent me on the same training courses that gave some unique skills.
Sports and Social Club
Working from home
I applied for the graduate development programme. Let's see what happens...
The Culture
Made some good mates for life.
The area has two nightclubs and a few standard bars and not much else. This is the only downside.
I am used to the big cities so I didn't enjoy my nights out that much.
Football teams, table tennis, bowling etc.
