Intern - ITRA Review

I really enjoyed working at EY, the internship was well set-up with plenty of work but also a lot of time to explore the different aspects of the company. It was also (in my experience at least) not too demanding in terms of the time that I was required to work.

Whilst a great majority of the time I felt that I was being useful and contributing to the team, there were a few times where work became scarce and no-one had time to teach me how to do the things they needed doing so in those times I busied myself with my own projects.

The system at EY is really good, you have a buddy who is a few years ahead of you who helps you with day-to-day things and then your supervisor who works with you to set goals and work out how to achieve them and then checks in with you throughout your stay there.

There were a few times where I didn't have any work, particularly towards the end. This may have been because an administration error had meant that I turned up unexpectedly.

I had a few documents that I put together and filled in myself but generally everything I did was collaborative. I completely understand why that would be the case though because everything I do reflects on the company and most things are standardised to avoid liability.

The skills and insights that I picked up will be particularly useful in future working life. I'm not sure they will assist all that much with my degree studies because of the nature of the work I was doing (IT Risk Assurance) but you never know.

As EY is such a big company, there is so much going on and you really feel you're part of something.

Due to an administrative error, I wasn't expected in my particular department when I arrived so it got off to a bad start. For everyone else I believe the organisation was very good throughout. Generally, it was a really good introduction to the company.

The first two days are very basic introductions to the world of work. I almost felt like they were aimed at mitigating the damage caused by any people who had made it through the applications and the interviews who actually didn't have a clue. In my role-specific training, there was much more investment and I was impressed with the time that my superiors took, particularly at the beginning, to train me and show me the ropes.

I have received an offer with a gap year in between university and starting at EY and I intend to take it.

There was a very large intake of interns. I have made some good friends from within their ranks with whom I stay in contact. The internship parties to begin the internship and facilitate the devlopment of those friendships were really good.

The cost of living was quite high because it was tower bridge and when it moves to canary wharf it will be even higher but I think the renumeration is well in keeping with that cost.

Being in central london, it was great.

I played hockey and joined in with the rugby socials. EY is a big company and there are loads of opportunities.
