The Role
It was an incredible experience, both the great city (London) and the time spent in the team were really enjoyable. The mix of work and visiting contributed to an unforgettable summer.
They were all supportive, open and friendly. I am really happy that I had the chance to meet and get to know them all. Genuinely interested in the problem that I had to solve during my time there, they always encouraged and inspired me. I have learned a lot from them, not only in terms of programming skills, but also transferable skills.
I highly appreciated the fact that they took the time to explain me how their team works and the financial part needed to understand that. Also, whenever I was stuck or just needed an opinion, someone was truly happy to help me and see my progress.
I usually worked on the projects assigned to me by the team, did some work-shadowing and also attended the events organised by the recruitment team. It was pretty busy when all of them happened in the same day, but most of the days I could focus on my work and spend valuable time with the team.
I felt in control of what I was doing in terms on coding and taking decisions for my project. I was happy to see that, gradually, they trusted my judgement and let me experiment on my own.
I used Python during the summer and at the beginning of the 8 weeks it was completely unfamiliar. However, by the end of the internship, I was already confident with my skills, the progress being visible. I will not necessarily use Python in my degree, but the programming techniques that I have learned are definitely important for a programmer.
The Company
They were working as a team, friendly to each other. They were doing their job without being to stressed, even though there were lots of deadlines coming. It was really enjoyable to work as part of the same team.
It was well organised, I always knew when and where events were going to take place and we were announced in advance.
There were financial trainings and programming ones, but also transferable skills and inspirational trainings. I felt like I am very well taken care of!
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I believe that the graduate programme is everything a student could wish for at this point, at the beginning of the career! It gives the opportunity to learn from the top people in the investment banking industry, improve transferable and software programming skills and gain more practical experience.
The Culture
There are plenty of networking events for interns only and it is easy to make good friends. There was always someone you could have coffee/lunch with, either fellow interns, teammates or manager/mentor.
Average, £7-£15 for lunch, no drinks included.
There is definitely a nightlife vibe (it's London!). There were many people going to the pubs in the area and meeting with their friends or colleagues especially on Thursdays and Fridays afternoons/nights.
Volunteering, sports or social, there was definitely something for everyone.
