    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Everything was very well structured, had lots of opportunities for personal and professional development, networking and getting to know the company. Had a lot of support from HR and everyone else in the office.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was very supportive and friendly, I felt like I exceeded their expectations of me.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Asking questions was very encouraged, everyone was eager to explain things I didn't know or couldn't understand.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were very busy, but had a few days closer to the end of the internship when I had no work to do and had to ask people around for work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given much more reponsibility than I expected. Sometimes I felt like I wasn't qualified enough to carry out certain procedures but then I thought they wouldn't have given me the task if they hadn't thought I could do it.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I got a chance to practise my communication, organisation, time magement, teamworking and many other important skills during my intership. It gave me more confidence to do my dissertation and get out there to approach businesses in order to carry out research.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was more fun when we worked at client sites (3 weeks of my intership) because it felt like we were a team. When I was working in the office I didn't know that many people, and often had to sit far away from people in my team, so that wasn't that fun. But normally people sitting around me were very nice and friendly.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The structure was perfect. The first induction week was great - they managed to incorporate a lot of material (could have been more practical but it was still pretty good and the food was great). Then I was working on different projects for 4 weeks, so always had work to do. In my last week I barely had any work to do, so had to look around for work. I know some other interns were not as happy because they hadn't been assigned a project in the beginning, so they were a bit lost and didn't know what to do.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot of money and time in me - the first week was just training and no work (1/6th of the whole internship!) including an all expenses paid trip to Latimer (outside London). I had regular meetings with the HR team regarding my progress, the partners were very approachable. So I feel the experience as a whole was very good. If you feel like accountancy is your field - then PwC is definitely the company you want to work for.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Got a job offer.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We met up for drinks with other interns a few times, also went for dinner and went out after the last day of the internship.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live in Edinburgh anyway, so it was the same for me. Not too cheap, but also not as expensive as London.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in Edinburgh is pretty good. I have been here for three years now, so feel I've had enough of the clubs here. However, I was doing my internship in August during the Fringe festival which was awesome because there were lots of shows (comedy, theatre etc.) to go see. It's always the best time to be in Edinburgh.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not that many for interns. I know there are different clubs, societies and community days for full-time long-term employees, but you wouldn't get involved with those if you are just on a 6-week internship.
