About You
Very much enjoyed the 3 weeks experience. I learnt a lot and met a lot of people from across indirect tax.
I felt very welcomed and valued during my time. Colleagues appreciated the work that I completed for them and I was often invited out for drinks or lunch.
A lot of support was available during the 3 weeks. I had a buddy who I went to if I needed more work. I also had a champion who answered any of my questions and set up small meetings to ensure my VAT knowledge was sufficient. Finally at the end of my 3 weeks, I was given the chance to give feedback on my experience.
I learnt a lot about building relationships with colleagues and clients as well as a lot about the service line I was in. This meant I was able to contribute to projects and giving VAT advice to firms.
The Company
I felt that this internship was relatively well structured. All of the regional teams met up a few days before the internship which was a good introduction. In terms of during my 3 weeks, I always had work to complete, and client meetings were set up in which I was able to attend. The structure meant that I was exposed to various things that the VAT deal with.
I had a great time in the Birmingham office. It was a team of about 30 people so I really got to know the team. On my bay (6 people), it was particularly enjoyable with plenty of banter so I really felt part of the team.
A fair amount of time was invested, but as it was only 3 weeks, this was limited.
I experienced a wide range of things during my time in Indirect Tax so I definitely had a good idea of what it would be like full-time. Also, I had the opportunity to ask plenty of questions to junior and senior members of staff to learn even more.
The company culture is obviously corporate and professional but in the office it was a lot more relaxed than I thought. People worked hard but there was still time to engage with colleagues and talk to them.
Yes this was brilliant and has confirmed that I wish to pursue this career path.
Everything Else
This internship was well paid, and although I didn't get reimbursed for travelling to work, I was reimbursed when I needed to travel to client meetings.
Yes, every first Friday of the month in the Reception it is free drinks Friday where all employees are welcome for a few drinks and nibbles. This was a good opportunity to meet staff from other service lines and network. I also went out 3-4 times with my team after work so again, this was a good networking opportunity.
These were great fun and I had a great laugh, especially with my team after work so I felt like I really got to know them.
Yes I learnt that people can get involved in language learning and sports e.g. Netball. Teams would play against e.g. Deutsche Bank.
Yes this was a brilliant experience where you can learnt a lot despite it only being 3 weeks long.
