The Role
Very thoroughly
Extremely valued, I was part of a team with a defined role
Very much so, I had a very supportive manager whom I communicated regularly with and supportive mentors
Very busy - which is how I liked it. I was never left without a task to do, but I really enjoyed it
More than I could have ever imagined. I ran a global Microsoft technology competition for the UK individually - alongside four other key parts of my role!
Invaluably. The time management, task prioritisation, meeting etiquette, networking skills you could never learn in the way you do on the job
The Company
Amazing. Microsoft has a very serious, professional business code of conduct - but with a relaxed, quirky culture. We had Nurf Guns and remote controlled balloons on our floor, alongside a 'chill out room' with an Xbox One, sofas, music
Incredibly, the UK Graduate Team are fantastic in co-ordinating with individual managers to ensure everything is well connected. There were so many possibilities to go beyond the role as an intern in stretch projects, training
Very highly - I was the UK representative from our team sent out to Microsoft Corp in Seattle! You were treated as a full time employee in the training courses you could choose to attend - this was very much encouraged
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Would love to join the MACH scheme - however is extremely competitive so have to reapply to be reassessed for a role
The Culture
Yes, interns and graduates socialise inside work, and outside in terms of sporting clubs and evening activities. There is a very strong intern/ grad community
TVP HQ in Reading meant cheaper cost of living than London - though still in Berkshire so reasonably pricey
Reading is a reasonable night out - London is a 20 minute train away
Yes, lots of official sporting clubs. If one did not exist that you wanted, you could create one
