The Role
My internship really helped me understand how different marketing techniques combine together to create an integrated campaign. Other than the work, Microsoft really care about ensuring interns have a great experience, with lots of opportunities for stretch projects, and lots of support in case things aren't going well.
Microsoft has a really collaborative atmosphere. You can reach out to people whenever you need guidance or advice, but equally - they'll expect to be able to reach out to you when they need something!
I had a weekly 1-1 with my manager, and frequent meetings with other senior people across the organisation.
Very busy, but I enjoyed the pace. It was complimented with lots of opportunities to have fun - like working on the launch of the Surface 2 in the UK.
On some projects, I was given total free reign to work through ideas and present back to my team, which is a high level of responsibility and I felt that there was a lot of trust.
Back at University, I'm always thinking about the things I learnt during my internship. The knowledge of how marketing works helps me with my degree, and the soft skills like dealing with people have helped me in group work etc.
The Company
Relaxed, no obligation to dress formally. Free sweets, lots of exciting things happening each week.
Fantastic. A dedicated HR team for the programme work extremely hard to ensure everyone has a great year and makes the most of their time.
1 week of formal training is supplemented by on-line training and optional face to face training in a variety of areas throughout the year. My weekly 1-1 with my manager was about staying on track to hit long term goals.

The Culture
With over 100 interns in the UK, interns live together and hang out together.
£300 a month rent.
Bit dull..... unless you like cheesy house remixs and Joey Essex at your local nightclub.
Lots. I worked on charitable projects, was part of the touch rugby team, as well as PR launches for new products. Too much to get involved in.
