The Role
I loved my placement at Microsoft. I do honestly believe I had the best job ever! I was involved with launching several games on Xbox, working with the Xbox Live team and even helping with the Xbox One launch in Leicester Square!
Everyone was very welcoming and encouraging. My colleagues were very friendly and always very happy to answer any questions and get you involved in extra projects. I always felt like part of the team and never just 'the intern'.
My manager always ensured that I had a manageable workload and helped provide as much support as needed for challenging tasks. Huge shout out to my manager. He was awesome and really looked out for me on my placement. Other managers and members of the team always made sure I was getting on OK, got me involved in extra projects and provided support and guidance as necessary.
Some days were naturally very busy. My manager was incredibly supportive and helped me manage my workload to ensure I was never overwhelmed or swamped with too much work. There is an incredibly steep learning curve on how to effectively manage and prioritise your time, but I feel like this internship has really helped me gain these skills. Despite being sometimes very busy, I loved every second of it because I was able to get involved with more projects and see them through to the end.
From the first day, you are fully immersed in the job as part of the team! I feel like I was given a lot of responsibility owning projects from day one. I worked closely with publishers with the guidance of other PMs just to ensure that if I was ever stuck then I had someone to go to for advice.
This placement was very useful to gain real-life experience that university cannot provide by itself. I have gained many skills and experiences which I will be able to carry over to my future employment and career.
The Company
Always a fun and friendly vibe! All of the teams got on very well which meant that everyone was a lot more productive in the office.
I think there were a few gaps in the overall internship but generally it was incredible. The recruiting team are very friendly and ensure that your time at Microsoft is the best it can be.
There is a sense of continuous development at Microsoft with additional seminars and meetings which you can attend.

Very appealing. The MACH scheme offers a chance to come back to work at Microsoft. Many FTC/FTE roles available.
The Culture
There was a good relationship between placement students.
Considering we were living about 30 minutes walk away from the Reading HQ, it seemed incredibly cheap to be paying about £400 a month on rent.
