The Role
I was exposed to a vast volume of work, which was of great benefit in terms of learning for the remainder of my studies. Furthermore, I audited a number of different company types and in differing locations, including an overseas audit. Time pressures did apply which led to a small degree of stress, but if anything this was beneficial in preparing me for work in the future.
Given the line of service, and my position on the hierarchy, often work would be expected as opposed to appreciated. This however is understandable given the stress and reliance being placed on everyone for meeting deadlines. However only on few occasions was I not thanked for a job well done.
I was allocated a senior member of staff as a point of contact throughout my placement. This proved an excellent resource for me in any times of difficulty. Regular feedback meetings were used to be able to express any concerns or areas for improvement with my placement,
During "busy season", a lot of work was required of you, sometimes resulting in heavy workloads and long hours. However this was counteracted by a calm summer period.
I was given the level of responsibility in line with my role within the audit teams. There was always more senior staff in control, as to be expected. However I was given more important tasks and continually challenged as my Placement went on.
My placement was highly relevant to my chosen degree and I obtained a vast amount of knowledge through Graduate training which I was involved in and practical application of audit/accounting procedures. My placement also linked into the ICAS qualification and counted for one years worth of relevant work experience.
The Company
There was plenty social activities in the office and nights out, also many sports related activities going on. As noted, there was a general feeling of stress at times but everyone knew when Friday came around.
No issues noted. My placement was well structured, my schedule of work well organised in advance and I was always busy.
As noted, I was put onto the Graduate training scheme, which meant I was allowed to attend all relevant training for the work required of me. This training was conducted during time when I could've been used for chargeable work so this in itself made me feel valued.
