The Role
The internship was a fantastic opportunity to network with employees across the whole bank and really get to know how the bank operates and which qualities and traits suit and appeal to your work ethic the most.
I felt valued by the bank in general - people had a lot of respect and time for the interns, irrespective of their seniority. I managed to meet with the chief of M&A, despite his busy schedule and even though I was not an intern in his division.
A lot of my internship involved me taking the initiative - seeking work of my own accord and learning to make the most of the opportunity given to me.
I spent most of my day networking, fitted in with work - a large project I completed was one that I took the opportunity of creating myself, and putting it together involved a lot of networking.
I was given the responsibility to complete tasks, and there wasn't anyone junior in the team to help/supervise me. I reported directly to the Managing Director of my division.
I learnt how to behave professionally, to speak up when I saw something wrong, to be honest and yet tactful at the same time. I learnt to remain calm under pressure and to go away and think strategically about how to achieve my goals.
The Company
A lot of fun, people were quite laid back and happy to explain and help you out.
There were some great networking events to help us fit in and develop lots of skills for the workplace. Some interns had greater structure than others - that was dependent on their team, really.
Bank of America cannot be faulted in the amount of time and investment they put into our learning and development during our summer internship.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing - it's easy to see that I can move laterally in the bank, and that there are several opportunities available to me, should I wish to pursue them.
The Culture
Yes! The GTS interns travelled as a apck - we were very close, tight knot group of people and I am sad to see that some of them won't be returning with me next year. Some interns were perhaps more strategic that others, and a little more secretive but I suppose that is to be expected in a highly competitive environment.
I lived at home - socialising was not too expensive, perhaps a tad pricy if you had to pay rent.
Nightlife was great - lots of places and people to hang out with.
yes! Several networks at Bank of America and lots of free time to do other things - I play three instruments, sing and dance and love to spend time with my friends - I managed all of that!
