The Role
So far I have enjoyed my placement very much - the atmosphere in the office is fantastic, there's never a boring day at work and the people I work with make it all that better. The internship scheme that I'm a part of has been well organised, and the community of interns/grads/apprentices means there are many people to meet and socialise with. Not , and that, but I'm really enjoying my role - I feel like I've been placed very well according to what I'm good at and what I'm interested in. There's a lot to learn but I feel the skills I have learned will be beneficial in the future.
I feel very valued by my colleagues, even since my first week I've been treated well by them and I feel like I can help them and they can trust me. Straight away I felt like a valued member of my team, and taking on responsibility means that they trust me with that, which makes me feel like I am real part of it all. I have never been treated as just an intern who is here temporarily, but a full time member of staff.
The support received is very good, I can ask for help and always get a helpful answer, plus weekly one to ones where I can talk about any issues I'm having or any goals or targets I should be working towards. However the most important thing is that there is always somebody to ask and everyone is very open and willing to help.
At the beginning of my placement I was less busy on a day to day basis, as I was still learning all about what my team does, what individual people in my team were doing, and the systems that they use. However a few months into the placement and I have been given specific responsibilities, meaning my days are now more busy. Whilst some days I may have lots to do and others less to do, I've never found it to be on either extreme (nothing to do, or too much to do!) so I'm very happy with the balance.
As above, I started off with not much responsibility, however as my placement went on, I have picked up more. Although I still require assistance before I do anything major, I feel like the amount of responsibility I have been given is very suitable.
I definitely feel at this placement I have gained life-long skills that I haven't been able to gain before, having not had an opportunity like this. It will give me great time management skills for my university degree, plus the motivation to organise my work better. Not only that, but I feel it has matured me as a person and I'm able to ask for help and build my own path better than I would have been able to do before.
The Company
The atmosphere is great at the office, everyone is very friendly, and there is a great mix between being professional but friendly and informal. There is nothing extremely strict or uptight, and everyone is open and willing to help. There's always something going on to get involved in, and the downstairs reception always hosts different events. Almost everyday there's something new going on, and it's always exciting to see what's coming next.
I feel that the placement scheme was well organised, and the induction days were a great way to get to know the office and the company. Before starting my placement, I was assigned a buddy who spoke to me before I joined about what I should be expecting. However I was initially assigned a line manager who wasn't in my team. This was quickly resolved, and everyone was very helpful about it, so I feel it was set up well as a whole despite still being a fairly new scheme.
There are many different opportunities for personal development, there are training days and different online courses you can take to expand your knowledge on something. There's also the opportunity to shadow different people to help improve my understanding of different areas of the business.

Very good, the next option is the graduate scheme which you can apply for whilst still on your internship scheme, and that then leads you onto a full time permanent job. Having gotten to know some of the graduates, and hearing what their scheme consists of, it sounds very appealing.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene. As there was over 30 other interns starting alongside me, plus the many grads and apprentices, many social events were organised - at the beginning of the placement, we did something every weekend! Also, within my team, we have gone out on various team days and meals and this has meant I have gotten to know my team and placement students very well outside of work.
Slough, being just outside London, is not cheap and I found my house more expensive than my University private accommodation, however it's definitely affordable with the salary I get. It does depend on where you choose to live, as different locations are more expensive than others, and travel costs vary too. Depending on where you go out to socialise, prices vary, but it's never been affordable.
Slough does not have very much nightlife at all, besides a few pubs, however when the placement students or my team go out at night, we tend to head to the surrounding areas which are easy to get to, or London, which is also fairly quick to get to from the train station.
Yes, O2 has a charity/volunteering organisation called Think Big, which offers employees the chance to get involved helping out one of these events. Me and a few other placement students have organised a class ourselves to help teach young people about web development and design. I do not believe there are many sports clubs, but I do see some people organising things by themselves for outside of work activities.
