The Role
I really enjoyed the work I did everyday on my placement however some times it felt that there was too much work for one person to do.
The people/environment I worked in at 3M is the friendliest environment I have worked in, everyone is welcoming and genuinely nice.
At the start of the placement there wasn't as much to do everday, during the middle there was a good balance of the amount of work but at the end there was perhaps two much work to do by one person.
I was given full responsibility for the build of the new Health Care website which was also to be replicated to other 3M Health Care websites for the European equivalents. This was a huge responsiblity as I had to adhere to design and coding standards as well as internal corporate standards, ensure the build was scalable and robust and would be easily translated into other languages.
I think the skills technical skills I learnt on my placement will not benefit me in my final year as my course requirements are completely different from the technical requirements of the work I did on my placement year. However the work ethic I developed and the experience of the working environment that I gained during my placement are invaluable and will help me immensely in my final year at university.
The Company
As a student group at 3M we set up a development programme which was personalised to our requirements. This programme ran throughout the whole year and consisted of multiple sessions on a variety of topics from Time/Project Management skills, to Career Planning and Presentation Skills. I would say that 3M invested a lot in our development.

Working from home
I am currently doing contract work during my final year at university and hope to return as a graduate when I finish university.
The Culture
3M offers a variety of opportunities through charity events and supporting local schools. We spent a team building day in the local forest helping to preserve the Oak tree population by removing predatory trees and chopping them into firewood.
