The Role
The internship was very challenging and I was given a variety of tasks to work on. I was also given a significant amount of responsibility from the beginning.
I was welcomed into the firm by all members of staff, and made to feel like I was part of their team right from an early stage.
There were a number of managers who would ensure that I was coping with my workload, and were always there to offer additional support if it was needed.
I was kept busy on a daily basis and there was always plenty of work for me to do, however my workload was monitored to ensure that I was never too busy.
I was given a lot more responsibility than I had initially expected. I was responsible for completing a variety of audit tasks and was able to communicate with clients myself which I felt was very beneficial.
I developed a number of vital skills during my internship which I feel will assist me greatly throughout my final year at university, and the variety of tasks and responsibilities given to be will prove very beneficial. Also, we were sent on a two day presentation skills course which I feel will help me with presentations I have to do in the future.
The Company
There was always a great atmosphere both in the office, and when out on audits with a small group of employees. Grant Thornton also have regular social events which help to improve employee relationships outside of a working environment.
The internship was very well organised and I was given a diary on the first day explaining what I would be doing over the six week period.
I feel that the company invested a lot of time and effort into making sure my internship ran smoothly, and that I was learning from this placement. I was also given a buddy who took time to ensure that I was settling into the company and was there to resolve any queries which I had.
Company Parties/Events
Grant Thornton offered me a graduate trainee position within the firm which I accepted.
The Culture
A number of social events were organised for the interns to take part in, and we also got the opportunity to meet other interns from over the UK at a social responsibility day in London.
I worked in the Glasgow office which wasn't too far from where I live, and in general Glasgow is a reasonably priced city for things like socialising.
The nightlife in Glasgow is very good.
There were both social and sporting events which I had the opportunity to get involved in outside of work.
