The Role
Mars is a brilliant place to work. They are a company that truly believes and works by their values and culture. There is an emphasis on a work life balance, and the office is a fun and friendly place.
As a placement student you are seen as no different to all other associates and I felt valued and part of the team almost immediately. You are given the same benefits and their is a huge focus on your self development which is something I don't feel you'd be given at an organisation that didn't value you.
Mars has a huge focus on self development, and if you are looking for a placement that puts a real focus on your learning and development, then I would highly recommend Mars, with regular meetings with your manager to review development areas, your progress and any support you require.
My workload was generally quite high with peaks and troughs, however with the focus on work life balance, this was never an issue.
From day 1 you are given a large amount of responsibility and will be leading projects. While left to do this by yourself, there are always colleagues or managers who are willing to help and provide support whenever you require it.
My role was not closely related to my degree, but many of the softer skills, such as planning, and presentation skills, I developed with Mars have helped a lot in my final year at university.
The Company
Really good fun and friendly.
There was a clear progression in the difficulty and amount of work as my need for new challenges increased. There was also a large focus on my self development and reviews to ensure my development plan was focused in the correct areas.
I was sent on external and internal training courses and even given the opportunity to gain a qualification that would not be directly relevant to me in my year with Mars, but would be useful in my future career.

The Culture
Based in Slough there is not a lot to do, however Reading and Windsor are really close and nights out, barbecues, and pub quizzes were done fairly regularly.
