    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It had lows when I felt that I'd made a mistake or was doing badly, but overall was an incredible summer.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All but a handful of people on the trading floor were willing to give up large chunks of their time to get to know me and teach me as much as I wanted to learn.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • We were assigned a recruiter to meet with every week to talk about how we were doing and make sure we had guidance and support. During each rotation we were assigned to a recruiting captain who was on that desk who would make sure we were guided through our time with that desk specifically.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Almost too busy, but I liked going home and complaining about how busy I was, so it was worth it. Oftentimes I would be running between meetings and meeting deadlines as quickly as possible and would need the bathroom for hours because I just didn't have time to stop. N.B. This was mainly self-inflicted. Everyone organised extra meetings around the schedule and asked for extra work to show how keen they were. If you don't want to be this busy you can just work less hard, but I found it fun.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Since I'm not FCA trained, I couldn't really do anything that useful. I did put together a few presentations that were actually used with clients later though and pitched stocks internally, so I was adding value, but not in a way that meant if I did a poor job there would be any negative consequences.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My time management skills have improved a lot. The knowledge I have gained isn't particularly relevant to my degree, but will be very useful for a career in finance.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very energetic. Nobody was 'looking busy'. When people took time out to meet with me their phone would be ringing like crazy in the background.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very clear that they had run the programme for several years. They ask for feedback at the end and adjust the programme a little every year to try to make it as good as possible. They know what they're doing.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They absolutely made the interns their focus while we were there and took the time to meet and educate every one of us.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very, very appealing.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns went out together most Fridays and out with their teams most Thursdays.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London is very expensive.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very fun, but as I said, expensive.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. We had Community Team Works day and the interns often organised activities themselves for the weekends

    4/5
