The Role
Fantastic 10 weeks. Had the opportunity to network across the firm, get involved in project work and day-to-day activities of the team. Goldman organise social events for the interns to attend as well as organise for senior members of staff to present and provide an insight into their role. Members of staff were extremely willing to meet with me on a 1 on 1 and explain their role in their team. I found people welcoming and enjoyed the corporate environment.
Did not necessarily feel valued.
Excellent support opportunities. You are assigned a buddy and mentor. My buddy was in my team and my mentor worked in a different sub-division within operations. My manager was supportive and provided assistance when necessary. I also organised for weekly catch-ups with my manager and the executive of the floor who I kept updated with what I was working on. I felt supported by those around me.
As an intern, project work consumes the majority of your day. It is difficult to get involved in day-to-day work, although I assisted my team with a daily activity. It all depends on how you manage your time and make colleagues aware that you have capacity to take on some of their work (e.g. a report). I was busy because I took on extra work to consume my day. There are also several presentations interns attend per week which takes up time.
As an intern, you don't receive much responsibility. It is difficult to be taught everything in ten weeks and no contact externally was allowed. I was also instructed on how to carry out my projects so I wasn't given the responsibility of completing a project how I would like to. I did not consider this a problem though as I was understanding to the fact that responsibility could not be given.
Really useful. Goldman love team work and this is an essential skill for university. My course requires me to complete team work as well as present in class. I had the opportunity to present at Goldman which developed my confidence to communicate with a wide audience. I also developed key skills such as: leadership and communication which are important for my degree. I believe all interns developed skills in addition to knowledge of the products Goldman trade.
The Company
The office floor is made up of several different teams. The atmosphere is intense, people have a lot of work to get on with so at times it could be quite intense. However, all members of staff were up for a laugh so there is definitely an element on banter on the floor.
Very organised. Clear structure to the 10 weeks. Every intern was given a booklet at the beginning of the internship which stated when all presentations by senior members of staff would take place. The HR team were accessible and extremely helpful and organised a fantastic 10 weeks.

Extremely appealing - fantastic organisation with opportunity to work within different divisions and teams.
The Culture
Very social. Interns and placement students regularly met up for drinks after work and were extremely friendly.
I lived at home but I am aware that interns who relocated typically paid £200 per week including bills for a house share for a property within close proximity to the offices.
Good bars close to the offices as well as a good location.
Yes - on your first induction day you get the opportunity to sign up to different societies such as: tennis, football, squash. You then receive emails from the teams inviting you to play outside of working hours.
