The Role
I had such a fantastic year and was given so many opportunities over the course of the year with experiences and responsibilities.
I was integrated very much into my team and worked alongside people who made me feel like my work and presence was valued.
I had weekly 1:1's with my manager where I was given the opportunity to raise any queries/ask questions and check in on my current status on the work I was doing.
I was busy all day, every day working on a variety of projects with a variety of people and teams based across core europe.
I was given responsibility of ownership of certain projects over the course of the year but kept my manager in the loop with everything I was doing.
The skills learnt on placement were incredibly valuable to my 3rd year of my degree and also to future employment as I have learnt skills that are key to working in a business and I also provided me with a valuable insight into a corporate environment and within that, marketing on a vast scale.
The Company
Great atmosphere - lovely people fitting into the mattel culture of 'creating the future of play'
The internship programme is well established and my manager was very organised.
While there was no marketing training available over the course of my time at mattel, I was given training in leadership and maximizing my potential.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I am keeping in contact with the HR dept every 3 months for the next year to see where I am at/ where the business is at in terms of recruitment/hiring but have not been offered a job upon graduation.
The Culture
There were a variety of social events ie. The races, xmas party, lunchtime summer bbq's, leaving drink socials for the company. Between my fellow interns, we went out for drinks every few weeks and some of us lived together.
Just outside london, in maidenhead so the cost of living is pretty high.
There was one dire club in maidenhead. However, it is close to windsor, marlow, reading and london which have a much better nightlife.
yes, I set up a badminton club at Mattel while I was there. There was also a mattel football club for the men.
