The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I got the opportunity to develop a solution that had real clients already waiting to use it. I was challenged as well as embraced into the team as though I was a full-time employee.
After implementing a solution using an emerging technology, there were other teams within my division that consulted me on multiple occasions to give guidance on their approach to solving a similar problem using the technology I had used. That was an indication to me as to how I was valued even as an intern.
As an intern I was not expected to know everything as such everyone was eager to help although they were all very busy. My manager had weekly one of one meetings with me to discuss my progress and give feedback on my progress and how I could improve.
I was very busy from the time I got to work right till I left to go home. I had to split my time between going for firmwide events and working with my actual team. Here the big takeaway for me was learning how to prioritize tasks in a well planned manner.
I was given a lot of responsibility as an intern. The nice thing about that was that my manager did not micromanage my task giving me room to make mistakes, correct them and learn along the way.
I learned a lot about team development, software development management, testing, and time management. I also gained some soft skills needed to be successful in a business environment. These are skills that are necessary to be successful in any team oriented development environment.
The Company
It was generally a friendly atmosphere. In the mornings you'd catch a few teams discussing world events here and there. From that point on everyone was very busy doing their work but were always open for a one on one catch up at the kitchen or over lunch. There are other social events to help you get to know more people. I took part in a scavenger hunt after work with other teams which was fun. Also had a bowling event where interns got to have fun together.
It was remarkably well planned. From the very first day our calendar was filled with a detailed schedule all the way up to the last day with some changes coming in along the way.
The firm had training workshops on skills required to complete the tasks we were assigned to. We also had some workshops on best practices for testdriven development as well as training on the capital markets.

I would love to start my career at this firm. I was impressed by how technology was used deeply firmwide
The Culture
On Fridays there was a soccer and basketball game which we regularly played. Also at lunch the interns would gather to play ping pong. Then on Friday nights we went out to have a good time.
It was quite expensive to live and commute to work. London is generally an expensive place to stay so that's understandable.
Accessibility to night cubs and events in London was pretty cool and exciting.
London is a very lively place hence there events weekly to attend if you have the time. It also has wonderful places to visit, like the shard and wonderful pubs around to have some drinks.
