The Role
I enjoyed the placement as I was given interesting and challenging work to do. There was a large social side to the work and the people at the company were very friendly and always willing to help.
I felt valued and was often asked my opinion on work that I wasn't necessarily involved in. I was asked to go to all the team meetings and got given real work to do during my internship.
My team were extremely supportive and my manager was always on hand if I had any questions to ask. I also felt that I could speak to them about work I was finding challenging and work I wanted to be more involved in and they helped whenever possible.
I was on a project team and the work came in waves. Sometimes I had an extremely busy day and others were more quiet so I took on additional tasks and got involved in other aspects of Barclays such as helping to organize a charity event.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility during my internship. I always felt that the work I was doing added value to the company and allowed the team to focus on other tasks
I feel that the skills I learnt during my time at Barclays are transferable. I was doing a lot of presentations, creating presentations, working with a number of different colleagues, providing packs for senior members of staff and a number of other tasks, These helped to boost my confidence.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my office was pleasant. It was often quiet as people were getting on with their own work but the canteen was always busy and it never felt tense. My team were supportive, always having a laugh.
The internship was organised extremely well. It gave us an insight into what it would be like to work in Operations but also taught us about the different areas of the bank as well as the issues currently affecting the company. There was a large social side of things and allowed us to network with a number of different members of the bank.
The firm invested a lot of time and money in us, teaching us about the areas of the bank and allowing us to hear from senior members of staff. They encouraged us to take part in events and network with colleagues to become more well-rounded individuals

Company Parties/Events
I work like to work in the company in the future as the staff are friendly, the work is challenging and there is scope for promotion and to move your way through the company.
The Culture
I got on extremely well with the people on the internship as I had met a few of them before during my Spring Week.We had a number of social events outside of those organised by the firm and had a lot of fun.
It was fairly expensive as I was working in Canary wharf however I commuted from home.
The nightlife was good, but again expensive so my colleagues and I often ventured away fro, Canary Wharf in the evenings unless it was just a quick drink after work.
There were a number of activities to get involved in such as a number of networks within Barclays hosting various events. There were also citizenship events and a charity event that the Barclays Summer Operations Interns organised.
