The Role
I really enjoyed the whole experience. All of the work that I was doing over the 10 weeks that I work at EY was something that energised me to come into work everyday. There wasn't a day on the job where I thought that I was bored with what I was doing or the work that I was doing wasn't interesting.
Definitely. Every person that I worked with showed a genuine interest in the work that I was doing and it really encouraged me to produce the best work possible. There wasn't a time where my colleagues treated me differently because I was an intern - most of the time, they weren't aware that I was an intern, just a full time employee.
My manager was really amazing. He helped me throughout the whole process and he would always put in the time to teach me something if I wasn't sure. The best thing was that I could approach him at any time to ask him anything and he seemed very happy to take time out and teach me.
Understandably, the work started off a little slow because I was just new and I was still learning about how everything works at the company. But as time went on I could see myself being given more and more responsibility within my team. Once I got to grips with everything I was doing work that my other team members were also doing and not some side job reserved for interns. When this happened things got really busy!
As I previously said, the responsibility ramped up over the 10 weeks that I was working there but that was so that I could learn. I was a little surprised that I was given so much responsibility. I was doing real work that actually mattered to the company. This really motivated me to push myself and do the best I can.
The skills that I developed will definitely help me in the future. There were some things that I wanted to get better at such as doing presentations and I can definitely say that I have improved. I made this clear to my manager at the start of the internship and he gave me opportunities to present to some senior managers in the company. This was an experience that really jumped started my road to better presentations. So yes, the skills I gained will be invaluable.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was to be expected. I had already worked in an office before so I had a basic idea of what it was going to be like. The only difference that I noticed was that there were a lot of more desks and computers in this office. The office was open plan so that meant that I could approach anyone I needed to talk to at any time and not have to go to their office. This really made it much more friendly to talk to people in my team and even more senior people in the company.
I found it to be very organised. I was always sent emails well in advance of any events that were happening and during the process of applying for the job, I was given frequent communication of how I was doing and progressing. All of the work that I was doing was already planned out before I got there so there was no messing around to find me something to do.
The company offered some training courses that I could take online, and also some that I could take where there were actual tutors but I didn't take advantage of these because I didn't need them. My manager was supportive and knowledgeable enough and provided all the support that I needed.

The Culture
I found the social scene to be fantastic. There were plenty of places that I could go with my colleagues and friends. It was quite easy to meet new people and everyone was really friendly. I went out for lunch on a regular basis with the other students also doing the internship and this gave me a good chance to get to know them.
The area was quite expensive I have to say. Occasionally when I went out for lunch the prices were decent but on the whole much higher than I'm normally used to. A lot of the time I just took a packed lunch to the office to save money!
Well it's London so the nightlife was amazing. There's so many clubs here that there was no way that I was going to get through them all but I certainly tried to visit as many as possible.
Not that many organised by the company but there were a few and all of them were really enjoyable. Mostly networking events and dinner parties but I didn't mind trying out some new food. Outside of the company there were almost too many things to do in London. I was constantly going out with colleagues and friends at the weekend to clubs, pubs, social events. And we even set up a few fun days at theme parks.
