The Role
I have enjoyed my placement thoroughly so far, I have new responsibilities and tasks each day and I am learning to relate my degree to my work
I feel very valued by my colleagues. Working in HR means I need to be accessible and open with everybody. Many people find that I am a good point of contact as sometimes the HR Manager is away on business
Although my HR Manager is very busy, I feel she did the best she could with the given circumstances
Sometimes it varies - I can have really busy days where I find it hard to fit everything in and some days I can be very idle - usually if my Manager is away and hasn't left much work/has little access to emails
I have been given as much responsibility as my Manager would have
I have enhanced my communication and IT skills greatly - this will be great for my final year when I will have to write a whole dissertation and use programmes such as Word and Excel
The Company
The office is generally fairly quiet - this is understandable as everyone is busy and I work with a lot of older people
I feel the internship was set up all. When I arrived all of my IT equipment has been set up and I knew exactly what to do and where to go
I would like to have more invested in me in terms of money so that I can travel more as part of my job as my HR Manager does. Besides from that, a lot of time and skill has been invested in teaching me.
National Travel
Above 25 days holiday
I would love to work for GE in the future if the opportunity arose
The Culture
As I have no other interns at my site and much of my colleagues are older, there is no social life at all
I live just above London so the price is a lot higher but this was to be expected. My salary makes up for this
I have not experienced the nightlife unfortunately
There are a few but as we are a smaller site, we have less focus on things such as volunteering etc compared to larger sites
