The Role
Good to see engineering in a real world environment and get away from the maths of my degree.
Worked as part of a small team and, as a result, felt like i was very involved with things that were going on, not someone that's just there to make the tea.
My mentor and manager are very supportive and approachable with all my, numerous, questions
The work load is variable, it seems to go in cycles of quiet periods followed by mad periods. That's the nature of the work, not much the company can do about that.
I feel like i was given a lot of responsibility, writing repairs to return parts to a serviceable condition, accessing computer systems where if you make a mistake it is recorded for ever and ever.
I think they will help me a lot. For a start its great experience and looks good on your CV, secondly, it helps to get a better understanding of manufacturing and repair processes, having to consider which ones are suitable for different parts and what we have capability to do. It gets you much more involved with it all than learning about them in a lecture.
The Company
Very friendly.
They take on a lot of interns at the Wales site. As a result it was very well organised except for getting access to the IT systems. Which was poor
My mentor gave me a plan of different parts of the shop to go and visit and experience. This isn't a company wide thing but if you want to do it you can always organise it.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare/Dental
There are bursary opportunities available for several positions if you are good enough.
The Culture
The interns have a facebook group and organise events.
Cardiff is fairly cheap. £280 a month rent. Going out isn't too expensive...depending where you go.
Its a capitol city so its pretty good.
There are a lots of charity events that you can get involved with.
