DMP Intern Review

I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement and learnt an incredible amount of new information in a sector of industry I previously had absolutely no knowledge of. I had the chance to work alongside industry professionals working to make a positive contribution to the business and develop my professional skills in a highly interesting environment.

I felt very valued by my colleagues as I felt able to assist various teams and departments in various different ways.

I was given as much or as little support as I wished. They were happy to assist and guide me when I asked for help or advice as I knew they were friendly and approachable. However, if I wished to take on a task independently they would take a step back and let me try myself first.

Relatively busy, initially when beginning my placement I felt eager to get on with work but could not do much as I did not have the necessary knowledge to get involved initially. However after a few weeks I settled in excellently and integrated well within my team to make improvements to the business.

I was given a significant amount of responsibility to run and oversee various projects, working to get them completed autonomously.

The skills I have acquired will help me immensely when returning to university to continue my studies as I have developed an excellent work ethic and sense of achievement and I feel this confidence will shine through into the work I produce in future.

The atmosphere was quite a friendly and welcoming one, with everyone being quite happy to help and assist with anything I needed if I asked someone for some help. It was also a very safety conscious environment which was nice as it showed the company cared about your safety in all situations.

The placement was fairly well organised, we were assigned a mentor who we could go to if we had any questions or concerns as well as having a quarterly review with the training manager to ensure there were no problems. This provided us with plenty of opportunity to raise an issues we may have had continually throughout the placement. The only criticism I have is that it took approximately a week to get set up with a laptop which hindered my progress for the first week but after that it was incredibly plain sailing.

They provided enormous amounts of training activities and chances to develop yourself personally and professionally. We had training on every possible topic, from the equipment they made to health and safety to careers advice from managers and senior members of staff.

The future employment prospects with the organisation are very appealing as they offer plenty of chance for your to grow and develop as well as the flexibility to try new roles as they encourage you to change career paths within the organisation to aid your personal development and skills.

The social scene was nice, I got along well with my fellow interns and we arranged social events approximately once a month outside of work.

The cost of living was very reasonable.

The nightlife was very quiet as it is situated in a small village so there is not much to do in the evenings.

There were some activities that you could get involved in outside of work from sports clubs and teams to hobby clubs such as photography, where they arranged trips with colleagues to take beautiful pictures together.
