The Role
I enjoyed the placement a lot especially with the large social support network with so many other students.
Obviously people's attitudes differ from person per to person, but for the most party people do respect the value of your work.
Support is always available, and when i have felt work pressures creeping up it has not been a problem to bring this up with my Managers, and resolve the issue.
To begin with work was quiet, which is ideal to build up your competence, but i have also been offering support for large events and projects, and in the run up to those i have been extremely busy, but as long as you know you are taking part in important work, and people notice this you don't mind working long and hard.
I was given a lot of responsibility and would run important reports and send them out to senior staff.
I have not had an opportunity to yet, but i am sure they will, my confidence with dealing with people has definitely increased. My work ethic has also improved, i hope i can carry this onto my final year.
The Company
It is quite a quiet office, but there were also fun people, so the atmosphere was good, you could work, and have fun... in moderation.
very well, Xerox has been using IP students for a long time, and accomodates them well.
They did invest some training and have enhanced my skills and knowledge. They did however deny my request for first aider training as i wouldn't be staying long enough.
Flexi Time
International Travel
i have mixed ideas about wether it would be a good idea to follow on from any placement. I think it is important to experience different roles and companies when starting at the bottom of the employment ladder. But would accept a good offer from Xerox.
The Culture
The social scene was probably the best thing about this placement with around 60 students on the same campus and all living close.
It was quite expensive as technically we were in Greater London, but part of the experience is managing your money.
In the town it was good, but we also had good transport links to go into central london, so the possibilities for going out were endless.
there is a lot of football, and a few events.
