The Role
The placement was very enjoyable. There was a really good balance of talks, socials and even a sightseeing tour!
I was made to feel very welcome at the introduction, by my allocated team and the various Savills networking events. My mentor was really excellent - set aside a lot of time to set up projects and give feedback. Everyone in the team were generous with their time.
My mentor led the show - I didn't have much contact with my manager - he was out of the office at meetings most of the time - just the nature of planning consultancy work! But my mentor more than made up for it. I felt my feedback was considered - both team leaders came together, along with my mentor and had a brief meeting to discuss my performance. I was really pleased with the generous feedback, some really constructive points made to!
Very busy - but i like being busy so its all good! The property events, talks, socials, after work drinks, lunches out broke up the day nicely. I stayed motivated throughout the month - the work was varied and they gave me multiple projects to work on.
A lot! I submitted several applications, was invited to meet with clients and undertook several independent visits to support the various projects i was working on.
The placement really gave me a fascinating insight into the wider property industry. It gave me a really good platform to put my academic study into practice. Into my third year, working on uni projects, you can see things others, without this particular insight, hadn't noticed.
The Company
Very good - nice office, motivated and friendly staff.
Very organised - although it required travel across London for some of the talks/socials - took big chunks out of the day
I was paid! Allocated a mentor (he was generous with his time), special networking and social events that really added to the placement.
Very! I really enjoyed my time with Savills, the work was interesting and varied. I received really good feedback - hopefully ill get onto the year-out placement.
The Culture
Both the events organised and the informal after work drinks were good - All Bar One 2 mins from the desk.
Very expensive - its London, you just go with it. Well worth the move down south for the month thou!
Again, very good, vibrant bar culture
I met up with one of the interns outside of work - i was new to London, he gave me a little bit of a tour of bars in the City's new skyscrapers.
