The Role
Working in a branch is enjoyable if you get yourself involved, engage with customers and colleagues.
I was valued by colleagues and when I showed them that they could trust me with work, I was valued even more.
There was not as much guidance as I expected. Most of the time I had to ask for management's support.
Retail banking is busy during lunch hours. I worked in Central London so it was busy most of the time.
I was given a project to increase customer satisfaction, which was my main responsibility.
I developed skills for delivering great customer service, learned a lot about the company and banking. This assists with my Economics and Finance degree. Gives a broader perspective. There is also an opportunity to do another internship in commercial banking with HSBC because I passed the benchmark. Having this experience helps securing a finance/banking related internship or graduate job.
The Company
The staff morale was low. People are not very motivated in retail banking.
There was a project coordinator who frequently kept us updated and organised netwroking events.
The company invested a lot into training by giving me the exposure to banking and letting me deliver my project on customer satisfaction. Most of the time it I was in charge of my own development.
It is easy to progress career-wise.
The Culture
Good socials every week.
London has high living costs.
The best night life.
No. Just one charity event.
