The Role
I really enjoyed my placement - I was given a big responsibility and got to complete my own project over the 10 weeks. I got to travel around and see other offices and got the opportunity to try different sectors. Everyone was lovely and I felt like I fitted in from the start.
My thoughts and ideas were all taken into consideration and I felt valued right from the start. My colleagues included me in all things that happened in the office and I felt that I really fitted in.
I was given a lot of support at the start of my internship, but as my project went on I was given more and more independent work to do. I had at least weekly meetings with my line manager and knew there was always someone to go to if I felt I needed some guidance. Because of this I felt I had an excellent experience and created some really good work.
I was given my own project and so after my initial guidance it was up to myself to set up meetings or calls with other people. I felt like I was mostly busy everyday, but not overworked and so I enjoyed the work I was doing. There was a couple of days I did do extra work but it was my choice as I was enjoying what I was doing so much and so wanted to stay and finish what I was doing. There was a couple of days I felt like I had some spare time, but after speaking with my line manager I was given guidance on how to proceed.
I had full responsibility of my own project and had to manage where I wanted it to go. Although it was quite daunting at first, it was so good for me as I learnt so much and got some amazing results. I was very glad that I was given so much responsibility.
Although the project will not directly help me with my degree studies it has supplemented my degree, I have developed some really good business skills and have so much more experience in a real life job.
The Company
I had such a good office- I got on well with everyone and the people on my desk were so lovely and really welcoming. I felt included in all their office things even though I was there for such a short space of time. For example at the end of the month the team leader would treat everyone at my work station to lunch and I was included in this, which was really nice.
My internship was set up really well. I was very lucky to have a specific project with something to comets at the end. It was well thought out and I felt like a really left some valuable work at the company, which I have been told since is working really well.
There were various events that were compulsory to attend for training - a beginning and an end event. And then there were some other extras that were interesting and helpful. There were some webinars that were intended to teach you but for me I think the technology needed developing slightly.
Flexi Time
Working from home
I have a graduate position lined up with the company and couldn't be more excited. After enjoying my internship so much I want to be a part of the company. I think the graduate role looks really interesting - with 6-8 month placements for 2 years to get a variety and to decided what you like the best.
The Culture
As I worked in a small subsidiary company of the large firm there weren't any students at my placement area, although from the Facebook group I did find someone nearby who I became good friends with. My colleagues where I worked were all lovely and my line manager and project lead made an effort with me as well. However I feel that if you want the best social scene you needed to be in London really,
I lived in Manchester and my accommodation was paid for by the company which obviously was great for me. There was various supermarkets nearby- including a sainsburys and a lidl. There were also lots of places to eat out if I wanted. I did however take my car and so this made things easier for me- ( I also got free parking) I'm not sure how easy or expensive it would be on public transport.
I didn't go out where I worked as I went home to visit family at weekend.
There were not a massive amount of opportunities to get involved with as there were few interns in the area. I think London would have been a busier place but for me it was fine.
