The Role
I really enjoyed working at Ford and did feel emotionally attached to the company at my time of leaving. The one bad thing I would say working here is the slow start, it took about 4 months for me to get anything out of the placement.
My colleagues were the best support, help and empowered me to feel extremely valued by the organisation.
Weekly meetings with my supervisor, I received a lot of support and feedback to help me progress my personal development.
Some days busier than others, the work load is very minimal.. There is plenty of time to do extra curricular activity.
During my placement I was managing two other employees. I had been empowered to the extent that I felt like a valuable asset to my team.
My soft skills on particular had developed. In particular my written, verbal and problem solving skills.
The Company
An older environment than most over places, everyone seems to be over 35 and the atmosphere was pretty calm but there is alot of bureaucracy.
Organisation was pretty poor, I wouldn't have said they were prepared for me as I had to ask for work during the early weeks
None at all, training was difficult to receive, web based training is available but provide no value.
The pay is good, the working environment is good but working at Ford is an investment and it will take years before you progress your status, my supervisor had worked there for 17 years and in terms of progression he was only 2 levels ahead.
The Culture
No, I had to set up my own community of practice for the other business placement students to keep in contact. We tried to get HR to continue it as it had nothing but excellent reviews but they had rejected the responsibility
Cost of living is pretty good, however it is in the middle of nowhere so you require a car or be prepared to take a train and a taxi as there are no bus services.
Nightlife in Essex is always decent, I would say its above average.
Yes, Ford does provide the opportunity to be involved with various external activites such as sports and clubs.
