The Role
Great insight into what a career in retail banking would look like with one of the leading banks
Everyone was incredibly supportive and there was always a really good atmosphere between everyone in the branch
My line manager was usually quite busy, but we had a plan of various tasks to complete during the internship and a project which kept me busy most of the time
Not as much as I would of liked
Again, not as much as I would of liked. I was there for a short period of time and some customer facing roles required training which I didn't have time to complete, so what I could do was limited
Teamwork and presentation skills have definitely improved
The Company
We were all quite young and got with each other really well so the atmosphere was always relaxed and fun
We had a plan of activities to do during the internship but were also given the flexibility to go further and get involved in what we thought was relevant for our development
Not much, we had a 2 day induction and then some e-learning but nothing special
Company Parties/Events
HSBC has endless opportunities so definitely a great place to start a career. But definitely not in retail banking
The Culture
We had a couple of events throughout the internship where we all got together
Not too bad, I stayed at my student accommodation for next year so didn't have to spend extra in accommodation
It's good during uni time, but during the summer was a bit dead
We had a charity work day and had to organise a fundraising event between a few of the interns, plus I went out for a few drinks with my colleagues from the branch as well
