    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Wished the 10 weeks never ended.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Doing meaningful work, the same work as everyone else around me.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Great buddy/mentor system, my development was put at the heart of the internship and the structure of the whole 10 weeks was excellent

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Extremely busy - worked much beyond my paid 7 hours. But this was a benefit - I learnt so much and was given so many great opportunities that just wouldn't have been available if I had been working 9-5. Always work to do, which made the experience so much more rewarding.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was working on confidential acquisition deals, and live DCM bond issuances. At one point I was on the phone to a lawyer in Switzerland negotiating terms on a confidentiality agreement. So much responsibility, but all the sufficient checks were in place so that I was never out of my place.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I chose modules for my final year based on furthering what I had learnt and loved over the ten week internship.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Hard working, motivated and driven. My team was a younger group who all cared for each other's success. There was nobody who was arrogant and overly self-confident - not what you would expect from a basically IB floor.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really great structure and management of the 10 weeks. I was always clear about my journey and what I should be aiming for at various stages.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Weekly 'webinars' which were a waste of time - all of the general 'investments' in me were boring and un-informative. My team however invested hugely in me - I had my own Bloomberg terminal, for example.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • IB work with a non-IB culture. Nothing could be more attractive.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Most nights, someone was up for going for a drink after work. Really great opportunities to also meet other interns as all were living in the same accommodation block.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive - London....but wouldn't expect any different.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London...

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lot's of opportunities for charity/volunteering work - actively encouraged.

    4/5
