The Role
Was a good insight into the world of world, and the company were extremely friendly and approachable. I was quickly regarded as a member of the team, and was involved in most of the interesting projects. I wasn't, however, given enormous amounts of responsibility, and was often left without anything to do. Since I was working over the Summer Holidays, many of my colleagues were away on holiday for extended periods of time, and I spent days with very little on my plate.
I was included in most of the events etc that went on in the office, and invited out to lunch with my colleagues, but I was given very little actual responsibility or training.
Often my supervisors were away or out of the office, and I was given very little guidance on what I was expected to be doing. The office was often too busy to give me direct help, and although I enjoy pushing myself and finding my own path, there were multiple occasions where 5 minutes of somebody's time would have saved me days of confusion.
Not very busy at all. I would spend at least three hours a day walking around the office asking for work. The whole six week period felt very much like they weren't expecting me, and there definitely wasn't any work planned for me to do.
Very little serious responsibility. I was included in some of the major projects, but given very small tasks. I did get more major tasks later on, but I soon found out these had already been done and I was simply redoing other people's work.
I very much enjoyed the site visits, and really appreciated developing my skills in structural engineering. Although there was very little development of engineering skills directly, I enjoyed the working environment, and certainly assisted me in making decisions regarding future career paths etc.
The Company
Good
Not great.
Not much
Good company, large business, but small office.
The Culture
Good. Although I was only there for a few weeks I felt included.
Not very high, I was living at home.
No idea. Didn't go out.
A few I think, although I didn't do any.
