The Role
I found it an extremely insightful and worthwhile experience
Very much so, as I was introduced to my colleagues on the first day and they were very welcoming and made me feel a valued member of the team. I even recieved an invitation to attend their christmas party
Sometimes it was difficult to get a hold of my line managers but that is to be expected considering the busy nature of the company. However, this was very rarely detrimental since there was always somebody who was willing to answer any queries I had.
It varied greatly, during my RBWM placement I had the option to sit in on a number of appointments, however if those appointments did not turn up there wasn't much of a Plan B. On the other hand, I always work to do during my CMB placement
Again it varied on the placement, during my RBWM one I wasn't given a great deal of responsibility on a daily basis which I believe is something that could be improved, especially considering I had previous experience with HSBC. Contrastingly, my CMB placement was very hectic and I was always faced with a task to complete.
I believe that my time with HSBC has a gave me a foundation level of knowledge regarding banking which has been extremely helpful with my degree, Economics and Finance. Furthermore it has enhanced my confidence with speaking to new people
The Company
I couldn't fault the general atmosphere in the office, there was a laidback atmosphere amongst all the staff which was consistent throughout both the RBWM and CMB placement. However, the hard work was never compromised thus making it an ideal environment to excel in.
We had a general ticklist of things we should do during our placement to ensure we had a well rounded experience. However, I would like to see this list increased as it was possible to complete the list before long before the placement concluded. Although this was offset by other members of staff being willing to give me additional tasks to complete.
A great deal as I was given several e-learning modules to complete including a module on FATCA which helped enhance my knowlege of financial regulations.

Exceptionally, as I have already been offered another summer placement with HSBC next year with the possibility of subsequent ones which conclude at me being offered a graduate job. Also, they outlined the plan for our development with HSBC up to 10 years into the future.
The Culture
Yes as there was a organised meet-ups for drinks with my fellow collegues throughout the placement.
As part of our placement, we were expected to take part in a fundraising event for Guide Dogs for the Blind which was a valuable experience.
