The Role
I completed a Retail Banking and Wealth Management internship where I was, more or less, completely left to my own devices as to what I wanted to do and get out of the placement. I therefore spent an equal amount of time doing project work, shadowing and helping out colleagues which gave me a varied and enjoyable experience.
The people in my branch were absolutely amazing. They always helped me when I needed it, took on board any suggestions and ideas I had as well as included me socially and made me feel truly welcomed and liked.
Support from all managers in branch and at a high level at HQ was always available. I developed great working relationships with the managers in my branch and they gave me invaluable experience into my own career and personal development.
I was in control of my own work load which meant it was varied and dependent on branch activities.
As much or as little as I wanted to have
I don't think I could have got the people skills I developed anywhere else and this will be applicable to whichever career path I choose and within my degree.
The Company
Office was quiet and a good environment to do work in, however a conversation would never be out of place. I spent most of my time however in the public areas of the bank where the staff were energetic and fun and the customers provided new challenges.
Structured very well during the internship with as much or as little framework to be used as I chose. After internship however contact has been lost with HR.
A large amount given the placement only lasted 7 weeks
National Travel
Somewhat narrow within retail and commercial banking only. No scope to transfer to other business areas.
The Culture
Fantastic! Great group of people!
They placed me in my home time so I stayed with my parents.
Average.
Yes I got involved in fundraising for guide dogs which the company supported in time and money.
