The Role
Had excellent exposure to senior staff in the corporate area of HSBC.
They very much appreciated the work I did for them.
My manager was great, helped with all questions and made sure to check that I knew what I was doing at least once a week, but usually more.
Very busy, had multiple projects for different departments.
Took control of a project that was being supplied to the Head of corporate banking, and was given complete free reign.
As a history student, this work did not affect my degree. But soft skills etc were greatly enhanced.
The Company
Friendly, everyone was looking to help out. Although I did feel that there was quite a male dominated atmosphere.
My placement was not organised as well as others had been, due to the formulaic nature of hsbc internships. The central graduate/intern recruitment team were quite disorganised, there were a lot of problems with them among the interns. Although I didn't seem to have many problems with them.
We had a development sheet which could be assessed. However, soft skills, training and that sort of thing weren't purposefully developed in an organised sense.

I really like the friendly nature of the company, this theme runs in all departments. I also feel they value interns highly and the scope for development within the company is very appealing.
The Culture
Interns got along really well, you don't usually work together however there were weekly socials and meet ups
London is a very expensive area, and this is reflected in tube prices and food and drink prices. Although the company do pay extra to those living in London.
London nightlife is great, always plenty to do.
There were socials and other charity events. Also socials within teams.
