The Role
Was a really good experience, great work environment. Very friendly and helpful people. Internship provided me with some valuable skills and helped me secure a graduate programme.
Colleagues were really friendly and helpful. Always kind enough to answer my questions and provide me with any help I needed. Work I provided will provide the basis of a future project.
I was supervised throughout the internship and given guidance to what I should do. However, a lot of it was independent project work, and learning while on the role. Had to be assertive and aware of what was happening around me.
Varied. Sometimes I had a lot of work on, and sometimes not so much. The project kept me quite occupied throughout the internship
I was given quite a lot of responsibility, the project entailed me learning how to use systems that I had never used before and being trusted with confidential data. However, I was not quite allowed to deal with any clients by myself.
I developed quite a few skills and had a lot of mandatory learning to do which gave me awareness on numerous topics within banking. Gained interpersonal, teamwork, independence and analytical skills.
The Company
Very friendly and open atmosphere. People always come and talk to you and you never feel left out.
Well organised scheme. However, there were a few times when there was nothing for me to do, but majority of the time I felt valued and there were a few good days with other interns- such as development day and a two day induction.
This was good due to development day and induction. Also organised some drinks and a charity day which was really enjoyable. Company invested a lot of time into us which felt very rewarding.
Very appealing. Will be joining the graduate scheme in October 2015.
The Culture
Yes, HSBC in particular have a very good social scene and it is all about the balance between work and social life. Numerous nights were organised over the 7 week internship period, and this was one of the perks of working with the firm.
I was working in London so it was expensive, but as I live there, I commuted everyday so that reduced my expenses.
Really good, a lot of bars and clubs around in central London
There were a few opportunities for example in regards to getting involved with charity activities etc.
