    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Summer Internship was an extremely beneficial experience at Goldman Sachs, I thoroughly enjoyed every day of the 10 weeks I was there. There was always something to do, I was given great training and given responsibility from the first week.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got to know all of my colleagues and was able to build a good relationship with all of them, I feel they really valued me in the team and were always willing to help me with my project.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management provided me with the training required for me to be able to complete my project, as well as that I received support from both of my managers who were always in the office available for me to reach out to.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy, as well the work for the project I was required to attend senior speaker series and skills training sessions which were very beneficial.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a project which was very important to the whole team as it was part of what the whole team was working on for the next few months, In order for me to complete my project I volunteered to stay a few hours after work sometimes which shows how much responsibility I had. I do think I could have completed the project within the given time but networking and other HR events did take up some time which I felt was my responsibility to make up for.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt have hugely benefited me in my final year as a computer science student. I am not able to work under pressure with tight deadlines much better as the experience has somewhat changed my attitude towards work and allowed me to become better organised and focused. The networking training has really benefited me as well but I feel thing I have benefited from the most is the technical training, I am now a better programmer and understand how to make "good code" which I feel is very important.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was always lively and everyone from my team was always in, there were occasional times during the 10 weeks when my team members would be away but they gave good notice before leaving. The atmosphere was very positive and there was always plenty of cake to motivate me :)

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised, I feel the balance between the HR activities and the project I was given was very good, although at times I did feel like I had too much to balance but I now that I think about it working under pressure is something that helped me develop my organisational skills by the end of the internship.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given both technical and non technical training. My manager had me enrolled onto all the training courses that were relevant to my project and also some non technical training sessions which would help me to improve my soft skills.
