The Role
Overall this was a great experience with many opportunities to show your current strengths and develop new ones. The placement itself was very structured with many events organised to help network with both fellow interns and LBG colleagues.
I felt the work I was involved in was really appreciated by my colleagues and the senior managers. The projects I had input in were very current to the bank itself and as such were of great interest to fellow colleagues.
Everybody I worked with or simply met around the Lloyds offices were very friendly and more than happy to lend a helping hand. A weekly meeting was set up with my managers though I often found myself speaking with them about my progress on a daily basis.
Whilst the work/projects I was involved with were very interesting and required a good deal of attention, the work load would come in "waves" with seemingly little to do one hour but then suddenly a lot the next.
I was very much treated as an equal by my colleagues and managers and this was included in the level of responsibility I was given during my placement. I was given key tasks within projects that had to adhere to strict deadlines and required good time management. Some aspects of the projects I was involved in went on to be used by senior management.
I found the skills I developed, such as: presentational skills, time management and confidence were enhanced most through working together with my manager and senior managers. There was a set of interactive power point presentations delivered by key colleagues within the bank which were interesting, although I found I still developed most of my skills applicable to my university course through working with my colleagues.
The Company
Very relaxed though with the focus still on getting your tasks done on time. You were free to talk to any of your colleagues and they were more than happy to discuss their work with you if you enquired.
We had both a welcome and close event in the London offices which was great fun and a really good chance to network with your fellow interns. I was allocated a manager within my division who worked closely with me my entire time at the organisation. The placement followed a set path with milestones set out in the paperwork you received when you arrived. This included placement wide powerpoint presentations, progress reports and targets for you and your manager to discuss.
There was a lot of resources and time devoted to help develop our business skills and acumen. This ranged from networking events to an intern charity challenge event were you competed in teams to raise the most money and awareness for the Lloyds charity of the year.

Being such a vast organisation it appears that there is a great deal of flexibility within the organisation and real opportunity to experience many divisions/areas. The extra perks and competitive salary are a definite draw.
The Culture
Definitely. If you made the effort to network and speak to your fellow interns, you were guaranteed to make some great friends. There were many opportunities outside of work hours to socialise and relax with other interns.
Being based in West Yorkshire the only real cost was in commuting from Leeds to Halifax on a daily basis. However, the cities themselves are relatively cheap to live in and have everything on offer ranging from large high streets with cinemas and museums to a great night life!
Leeds has a great nightlife. With a large student population in the city there is no shortage of cheap bars and clubs. The city centre is quite compact too so there is the opportunity to move from place to place relatively easily.
Although there were not many activities to get involved in outside of work that were set up by work directly, but this was more than made up by the social scene within the intern groups.
