The Role
I greatly enjoyed my placement. I think it was a real mix of experience from the workplace itself to group charity work
I felt very valued by my colleagues as I felt the work I was doing in my project had a real impact on company and its employees. Also, at times when they had too much work I would assist them with this and I believe this was really appreciated.
Not only did I have weekly meetings with my line manager, I also had an initial, mid and end review of objectives that we had set together so that I felt I was acheiving real goals in my time there. I also felt that when I did have a problem, that I could go to her at any time however I usually tried to intially sort this myself.
On a daily basis I was a little busy. There was always tasks for me to be getting on with and at times like month end when i was assisting my team more I felt busier however I was able to manage my own workload and this was a great aspect
I was given quite a bit of responsibility during my placement as I was in charge of pushing my project forward.
I think not only will the time management but also the business experience will assist me in my future degree studies and beyond. I also think that my time there helped my to decide which area of business I want to go into in the future.
The Company
There was a friendly atmosphere in the office, with often everyone knowing many people in the departments and across departments. There were also social event arranged by teams and across departments which made the atmosphere in the office a lot lighter and enjoyable.
The intership was very well set up, with a clear goal and role for me ready to go into
It ensured that one of my objectives set was to see other departments within Finance and so I spent various days of my internship shadowing these teams through contacts my colleagues had.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Extremely appealing.
The Culture
Yes a very good social scene, including a bar crawl in aid of charity across Bristol that was fancy dress within the teams
There was no cost to living as the company paid for me to relocate and so paid for my accommodation. The cost of socialising wasn't greatly expensive but perhaps a little more.
There were many clubs and bars and these were busy on weekends
There was a charity challenge in which you could raise money in any way that you thought of. Many interns including me also lived in student accommodation so we created our own activities such as rock climbing or going to the cinema
