The Role
It was the most amazing opportunity a student can get! not only you get an insight of the business and the different departments but also it is a chance to learn while on the job! Moreover, It has helped me to get a better understanding of my management modules at university and I feel more confident about my future.
Everyone was helpful and willing to help and like in any other job you could find challenges but it was good to know that I could count on them. It was a great team and they made me feel part of it!
From day one you know what they expect from you, which is helpful when presenting your project to your manager. After that, you are meant to arrange meetings with your manager weekly to evaluate your work and discuss further steps. I felt my manager let me figure out most of my own-work and I also found our last meeting really helpful and constructive :)
Most days were really busy but it was great to interact with customers and learn from colleagues at the same time. But, I also had my project to work on plus charity work.....it was busy!
I was surprised with the level of responsibility you get. But, I will say it is up to you to find your way in the job and to figure out what your project is and what you want to do.
At university, I can relate to my lectures and all the theory, which is very helpful when thinking what you could've done better at work and how to do things next time. Moreover, you get the opportunity to either take another internship or a graduate job with them if you really enjoyed it.
The Company
It was very much like a big family :) although sometimes it could be very busy and you barely got to talk to everyone. But, on most days it was a nice atmosphere.
I felt like it could have been better. Although I had a great team, I did find it difficult to get access to my IT log-in and because of that I couldn't keep in contact with other interns or get to know more about other events.
Training was done in week one. but, I believe every day I learnt new things and I developed new skills.

There are lots of positions within HSBC. It depends on what you like!
The Culture
It was very good. Sometimes, we met to catch up and we all helped each other :)
I was very fortunate to be placed in my city of residence. So, I didn't have to spend more than usual and because it was a paid internship I saved all the money for holidays.
It was my city of residence....I would say it was like any other night out :)
There were different charity events that you could join and it was all paid by the company.
