The Role
I really enjoyed working at CRUK. It is a really great organisation and everyone is very friendly. The work I was doing was interesting and I never felt like a volunteer, but was treated like a proper member of staff.
My manager was great at making me feel appreciated. I was never making cups of coffee!
I could rely on my manager to help me with anything, even if the guidance was a bit unstructured. He had never had an intern before, so I think it was a learning curve for him as well.
I usually had something to do, but there were times when I was at a loose end. This meant I was often helping a fellow intern or doing fundraising stuff that wasn't directly related to my team. I would have preferred a more structured work load.
I was given tasks that were important to the project the team was working on. I was happy with the amount of responsibility I felt.
The Company
The atmosphere is great. There is always something going on and it is a very relaxed atmosphere- not to mention there is always ALOT of cake.
The Volunteer placement manager is brilliant and very supportive. She readily helped on any problems I had and encouraged us to make the most of the opportunities.
The opportunities are there, you just have to make the most of them.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Travel loan
I have secured a job with CRUK but should stress that this is no way a guarantee of the internship.
The Culture
Partially, everyone was very friendly and we did meet for lunch and drinks, but I think this depends on your intake
It is in Angel, so central London so very expensive. I know a lot of interns commuted from areas outside London to avoid paying London rental prices.
The nightlife in Angel is good but I don't feel my intake of interns made the most of it.
Yes. There was always some sort of fundraising event going on with CRUK they encouraged you to get involved in
