About You
Very much enjoyed the insight day. It was good to see the BDO offices, meet like-minded people and speak with staff members who were about one year into their graduate programme.
I felt valued, to what extent is hard to say as it was just a day, however the staff were very friendly and answered any questions we had.
Not that much guidance, but that wasn't really the aim of the insight day. However when we were doing the group to present to the group, if we had questions we could query the staff, so I'd say that the support was good.
The chat with staff members about their experience with applying was very helpful. Working with a team for a short period to create a presentation brought up some reflection opportunities, ie how I work in a group and how that could be improved.
The Company
Well structured, there wasn't any lag between different events. The only thing I would say is maybe give the staff members a little more time to prepare as they were saying they had about 20 minute to prepare for the day, so sometimes they would read off slides.
Nice, friendly atmosphere. It didn't feel all that pressured, had a nice balance between producing a presentation and getting to know people and the staff.
Invested the time of 3 staff members (at the very least) and more staff members later on, which provided plenty of opportunities to ask questions and develop strategies for assessment days etc.
Limited insight as it was just a day, but we were in BDO's Leeds office so we got to gauge the office atmosphere a little bit.
A little, the company staff were very friendly and even a little shy at times which tells me that the company culture isn't quite so cut throat as other finance companies which I think it good and shows they value diversity.
Very helpful, I found the talks by the audit and tax staff members very interesting and am definitely thinking of applying to BDO in the future.
Everything Else
I was not paid or reimbursed expenses. However I live in Leeds so it wasn't any hassle getting there. I think they did offer to reimburse expenses if you sent them a copy by email. Did get a free lunch at the offices.
Yes had a lunch were other staff members came and talked with them over lunch.
Good, but initially when the lunch started there were not enough staff members to talk to tables individually.
Charity opportunities - I think they touched on it briefly in on of the presentations, but it was limited information. Social activities the staff mentioned a number of social activities they do as teams.
For a day insight, it was very useful to see staff members and see the offices. I would recommend this to a friend if they're considering apply to BDO.
