The Role
I enjoy my placement as it has given me the opportunity to work on many skills I feel I will be able to use in my final year at university and in my future working life.
I feel like a valued member of my team, as I am not treated as though I am on placement but as though I am a full time member, with the same level of responsibility as permanent employees.
I am given a lot of support and guidance, as I have regular meetings with directors and work closely with my team leader.
Work volume varies on a day to day basis, however there is never a moment when I do not have anything to do.
During my placement I have spent a lot of time working in the support centre of Pinewood Technologies. I was given a high level of responsibility as I was answering the phone to customers and fixing their issues. I was also reporting issues for development teams to then fix, and communicating with customers when this was done.
The organisational skills I have developed from working at Pinewood will help me greatly in my degree studies and further into the future, as it has given me great insight into working life and the benefits of managing my time well.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very welcoming, everyone in the office got on well and were more than happy to help, especially when I first became part of the team. It is easy to speak to team leaders and ask questions.
The placement has been quite well organised as we will have an opportunity to try a couple of areas of the business. We are also given a graduate scheme which outlines training programmes for us to complete as well as a reading list.
There is a lot of focus on placement students and graduates, and I feel as though the company spends a lot of time ensuring that we are aware of what is expected of us and set us tasks to help us to improve as individuals.
As this placement year is the first year of a two year programme, it makes it appealing to return.
The Culture
Every so often social events would be organised by employees
I lived at home during my placement however as I had a car had to pay for a car, insurance and petrol. The cost of socialising was quite reasonable.
The nightlife in the area is good, I do not get the opportunity to experience it much as I do not live in the area.
There have been a few opportunities, such as going for a meal and to the local pub for drinks.
