The Role
I really enjoyed my year here at Lloyds Banking Group. There were 8 other interns in my office, which made the social scene good fun, and the job itself was brilliant. I was given a great deal of responsibility and, providing you proved yourself, you were given even more throughout the year.
I wasn't treated like a placement student at all, I was treated like a full-time member of staff, thrown in at the deep end, but with a little more time to understand the role; partly as it was my first proper job!
Brilliant support throughout, with regular meetings with my manager and senior manager to track my progress; continually worked on weaknesses and built the strengths too.
Very busy on a daily basis, always something on, especially after week one in the month! This wasn't a bad thing though as it meant there was always something to do, even if main priorities went off the boil.
Plenty of responsibility, it was a great learning curve as I was thrown in the deep end and had to work hard to prove myself, to earn even more responsibility.
Absolutely brilliant use of a year - I wouldn't say they directly helped me with degree subjects, however the more practical and relevant skills were put into place, such as communication, stakeholder management and Excel. But this year the job has also made me work harder, to achieve the best degree result as possible.
The Company
Really good atmosphere in the office, I went out of my way to meet everyone and get along with everyone - still keep in touch with people now! I organised football matches too, which was a great way to know everyone on a personal level.
This was well organised from the team's perspective, however, we as placement students didn't know what role we would end up in until we arrived. This wasn't a bad thing for me as I loved my role, but it was a little bit of a lottery.
Again, brilliantly done by the company, I was given the chance to travel a little bit to meet other members of the team, and customers of ours. But I was also given the chance to go on a 3-day training course to develop programming skills, which came in very useful.

Very good, you are filtered through a quick-assessment centre to assess whether you are capable of moving onto the grad scheme upon graduation at uni.
The Culture
Yes, we all went out together, more so towards the end of the year.
Well the only flip side to London is the cost! Expensive rent, but well worth it, and you are paid enough to live comfortably.
Brilliant - London! Need I say more!
Not too many opportunities, however I set up a 5 a-side team and this meant we had some infrequent football to play here and there.
