About You
The Open Day was very informative, it included insight into the company and its future by a senior partner, as well as lots of guidance on the application process for both Vacation Schemes and Training Contracts and the Interview process and Assessment Day. We were provided with lunch sandwiches, where we had the opportunity to talk with trainees, as well as refreshments throughout the day and a drinks reception at the end. Finally we got an insight into what differentiates Taylor Wessing from other firms.
I felt valued to a great extent because it was only a small number of us present at the event. I had the opportunity to talk with trainees one-on-one and during the preparation for the Business Game, the trainee that supervised us was very helpful and approachable. Everyone was very friendly and approachable.
I received good guidance, in particular as far as the applications process is concerned. In addition, during the Business Game, the trainee assigned to us provided us with great guidance though the preparation process, helping us in the right direction, for example as far as really focusing and answering the question given clearly. The only thing I would have liked is that at the end of the Business Game, each team would get team-specific comments on the strengths and weaknesses of their presentation which would help me see which areas I need to improve, instead of only making a couple of general comments to all teams. Finally the graduate recruitment were very approachable and transmitted information in a clear manner, answering any questions.
The skills I received from the Business Game have been very useful in helping me understand an example of what is required by a solicitor to do in his job, particularly critical thinking and working as a team effectively, where key is communication. It also gave me confidence to face similar commercial case-studies and challenges that firms, including Taylor Wessing, require you to do during their Assessment Day.
The Company
It was very well structured. It was a one day event that started with a talk from the partner, then the graduate recruitment , a break fro lunch, an insight into the application and interview process and the Business Game. Finally it ended with a drinks networking reception.
The atmosphere was very pleasant. The other guests as well as the Taylor Wessing employees were very helpful. It was clear that the Taylor Wessing employees were very warm and welcoming, willing to answer any question. The atmosphere felt supportive and like a nice working environment to potentially work at.
It was only an open day, however given that, the firm invested many of its trainees, lawyer and partners' time in order to talk and network with us, as well as create the Business Game, guide us through it and eventually judge us on it.
It gave me a good understanding of the role of a trainee and during vacation scheme, particularly by the graduate recruitment's presentation and talking to trainees who are on their 1st, 2nd or 3rd seat now at the firm and explaining what duties that involved in different practice areas, particularly real estate which is something I'm interested in.
I gave me a very good idea of the culture of the firm by seeing the relationship between its employees as well as their interaction with me. The Business Game was also very helpful in understanding the commercial context in which they operate.
The content was valuable to a big extent since it gave me insight of what it would be like working at an international, full-service firm and Taylor Wessing in particular. It helped me understand the difference between smaller, medium sized and big law firms, as well as the benefits of not working at a magic circle firm. Finally it gave me insight into Assessment Days.
Everything Else
I was not paid or reimbursed expenses since I live in central London didn't have to travel much to get to the firm, however travel reimbursement was offered to anyone who required it.
Yes, there were two networking opportunities, one during lunch with trainees and one at the drinks reception with trainees and graduate recruitment.
They were very good since there was a limited amount of people and many trainees to talk to.
Not too much, the day was focused on the work they do.
