The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, and I felt that I was given the opportunity to grow and learn as an individual as well as learn to work as part of an team. Disney were very supportive of my gaining experience in other departments which I really enjoyed, and this helped me to gain knowledge from different perspectives.
My colleagues seemed to value my input and I always felt that my work was appreciated.
My supervisor was very supportive, and organised weekly meetings with me, whereby she would explain what needed to be done during the week. This allowed me to plan my time accordingly and stay organised.
This depended on the period we were in, there were periods which were very busy and other times which were much quieter. However, I found that I was able to maintain a good work/life balance throughout the year, even when it was very hectic.
I feel that the responsibility I was given differed during the year, in accordance with my progress. I found that I was never bored with the work I was completing, and started to be given more responsibility in the second half of my placement e.g. building files from scratch.
The skills I developed during my placement will be invaluable for both my degree and my future career. I have improved my Excel skills by so much, and learnt to develop formulas and create complex files which would previously have seemed very intimidating. I also learnt to use various systems which will be useful in future employment. Most importantly, I gained an understanding of how a big corporate company functions, and how important it is to work efficiently within a team.
The Company
Everyone in the office was very friendly, and there was a variety of competitions/quizzes to enter which made the working day more fun. There were also bake sales and events on a regular basis.
The placement was very organised, I was always clear on who my team was and what was expected of me. I was also able to help out with other departments which gave me a better view of all of the lines of businesses.
I was always included in training sessions, which included a training period of 5 days at the office to learn a new system which was to be put into place. I was also given a three week handover with the previous intern, which meant that we had ample time to go over everything I would be expected to do throughout my year at Disney.

Disney is a great company to work for, however they do not have specific graduate jobs which makes it more difficult to apply to work here after University. However, I have come across quite a few employees who were previously interns, and it seems that if you make a good impression within the company on placement, they will be happy to think of you employment in the future.
The Culture
There was a designated Facebook group for the interns to meet and talk before commencing their placements. There are well over 100 interns in the building and regular social events were organised by interns.
Living and socialising costs are generally quite expensive.
Very easy to get to central London where the nightlife is very good.
There were many opportunities such as clubs and a charity with a huge variety of volunteering work which employees could be involved in.
