The Role
The only part of the internship I enjoyed was meeting the other interns. The internship was not planned very well and I felt that they struggled to give me work. I often had days of doing nothing and the work I was given was incredibly menial - of course, I didn't expect to be doing 'real' work but I thought I'd at least do something more than making some PowerPoint presentations.
Seeing as the work I was doing was not of any importance, I didn't feel valued. Often I felt I could have not come in and nobody would have even noticed.
This varied a bit throughout the four weeks. I would occasionally get emails asking what I was up to but most of the time, I was left alone. Of course, this was just my experience and some of the other interns had really great managers. Also, I was assigned to someone who wasn't always in.
You can see above that I wasn't given a great deal to do. Because of this, I looked for other opportunities and looked to see if I could help the other interns. In situations like this you have to create your own opportunities.
None. See above.
I learnt a bit about the industry but in terms of actual skills - nothing. The only thing I would say is that I gained more soft skills like working with lots of different people (as I didn't have a team!) and communicating.
The Company
Quite laidback and everyone was doing their own thing. People were mostly friendly though.
Not at all! BUT there was a group of interns and half of us seemed to have a better experience than the others.
I think maybe because of the length of the placement, we didn't get a good chance to learn a lot and it probably wasn't worthwhile for them to train us in anything.
Subsidised Canteen
I don't think I will be applying to this particular department in the future - at least definitely not at KPMG.
The Culture
Yes, but mostly organised by ourselves.
Quite high - it is London.
Good.
Not really, there may have been but we weren't told about anything.
